Soundproofing techniques can be found easily in our everyday's life, such as band room or theatre. It is any means of reducing the intensity of sound with respect to a specified source and receptor such as increasing the distance between source and receiver or using noise barriers to block or absorb the energy of the sound waves. In our research, a peroidic structured tube was constructed and the sound transmittance has been investigated.
Mr. Li also developed the Sonic bandgap1 experiment into an experimental setup with an integrated lab manual, which has been added as a new topic in the course PHYS311 (Advanced Experimental Physics) since the summer semester of 2007. Also, this experiment has been added as one of the topics of mini-lecture for secondary school visit.
